Custom Jewellery

If you are here, it must be because you are looking for some custom work!

Here are the first steps I will ask you to do if you’re interested in a piece of custom jewellery. First, if you have old jewellery you want to melt, put it all together. If you don’t have old jewellery to melt down, that is ok! I can supply you with materials. Second, collect photos of jewellery you like. If you don’t know what you want, that is ok! We can design something together, but the photos you collected will show me what your style is.

Why Referrals Only?

I’m a part-time goldsmith and part-time mom. Sometimes my kids are around my studio. Referrals offer me and my kids a sense of security because they’ve already been vetted by someone else.

Also, working is a creative outlet for me. If I’m going to work, I want to keep my client pool small so that I don’t stress about not being able to help everyone. When I start stressing about work, it’s no longer enjoyable. I don’t want to sacrifice any part of my creative process in order to make room for more clients. BIG quality over quantity energy over here!

FAQ

What if I don’t have a referral?

I usually do an open to the public custom jewellery event once a year at a public community event. You are welcome to sign up for one of the event spots.

Can I drop-in to your studio?

Unfortunately no. You need to book an appointment.

Do you use recycled materials?

Yes. If I am using your materials, then we’re obviously recycling! All of the metals I provide are recycled. I get all of my scrap metal refined every year. The result of that is fine gold. I then use that fine gold to make new jewellery.

Can you turn my yellow gold into white gold?

Only 24k fine gold can be turned into yellow gold. I can trade you yellow gold for new white gold. By “new” I mean that the gold that I recycled/refined resulted in fine gold that I then use to make white gold.

What is your design fee?

My design fee is usually rolled into my entire job estimate. There are no hidden fees. If something might cost you more down the road, I tell you in advance.

What does it cost to make jewellery?

I often get emails asking things like “Hi! what does it cost to make a ring?” Well, it varies a lot. Am I supplying the materials, are you, or will it be a combined effort? Will it be a simple design or something more elaborate? How many stones need to be set? What size is the ring? Etc Etc Etc. There’s quite a few things I need to know before I can give you an estimate.

Can you get me mined or lab diamonds?

Yes! And precious and semi-precious stones as well. I buy from reputable gem brokers in Vancouver.

Can you guarantee my diamonds won’t be “blood diamonds”?

The only guarantee that your diamonds aren’t conflict diamonds (proper term) is if you specifically buy documented origin diamonds (Misfit Diamonds in Vancouver is good for this - read more on their website here), or if you buy lab-diamonds. People will tell you they don’t use conflict diamonds but here’s the thing: once they are all cut and polished, they are all mixed together and no one knows what came from where.

How long does it take you to make a piece of jewellery?

Anywhere from 2 weeks to 12 weeks once the design is established. I will be honest and say that I am always behind schedule but I have never missed an important deadline!

Can I watch you melt my gold?

Yes! It’ll be hard to line up a day we are both free to make it happen in person, but I can take a video and send it to you. I’ve had many people tell me it’s therapeutic to watch old jewellery they didn’t want BURN.

Can you fix my chipped stone?

I wish! Most stones aren’t worth getting re-cut because it’ll cost you a few hundred dollars.

I have never loved a piece of jewellery more than the ring that Alicia created for me. She listened to what I wanted, and made some really helpful suggestions. The result is a stunning ring that I can’t stop looking at. If you want a beautifully handcrafted piece of jewellery, I highly recommend Alicia!

I had a special ring that belonged to my Dad who passed away a few years ago. I loved the ring, but it wasn’t my style. I wanted something made from it that would represent the bond between my Dad and I. Alicia put so much thought and detail into the design of my ring. She truly captured exactly what I wanted this ring to represent, and it turned out even better than I could have imagined.
